Even though the schools are from different parts of the country, there's an awful lot of history between the Saint Mary's Huskies and Calgary Dinos. As a result, the teams head into today's Uteck Bowl at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium here with a number of intriguing storylines. For Huskies coach Steve Sumarah, it's a chance to go against his former teacher -- Dinos coach Blake Nill. For Calgary QB Erik Glavic, it's a chance to beat his former team, having moved west with Nill back in 2007.

We're all aware of the subplots, but (Steve) and I are both football coaches, we're both competitors and we both want to win the game   -Blake Nill

"We're not going to drop rates just to turn dollars," Fertitta said. "I'd rather not have all the bodies. It's got to be profitable dollars for us to rent a room." The Golden Nugget's new $150 million hotel tower opened Friday morning, and was largely sold for its first weekend.

As great as it's going to be for that part of the market, I don't think it grows the market   -Bill Lerner

Faced with the daunting notion of a 5:15 a.m. wake-up call Saturday in advance of an all-day flight to paradise, the last thing the Maryland basketball team needed Friday night was a rude wake-up call from an inferior New Hampshire squad. Have no fear. The 25th-ranked Terrapins were never in danger of sleepwalking through this final early season tuneup in advance of the far more challenging Maui Invitational that awaits next week.

We're a work in progress   -Gary Williams

Rick Eckstein (hitting coach), Pat Listach (third-base coach) and Steve McCatty (pitching coach) return in their 2009 roles. John McLaren, for whom Riggleman worked in Seattle in 2008, will be the bench coach.

CHRIS HUGHTON is targeting new recruits who can help secure an immediate return to the top flight rather than building a squad for life back in the Premier League. Achieving the short-term goal of promotion is the manager's only concern. He is refusing to look further than ensuring Newcastle occupy one of the Championship's top two positions on May 2.

We are a third through the season, so it is difficult to be think about the Premier League   -Hughton

ARSENE WENGER will arrive on Wearside today, having been labelled a managerial genius by Steve Bruce . The Sunderland boss, however, feels the arrival of his Arsenal counterpart 13 years ago prevented more home-grown managers from being offered roles in the top flight. Despite a recent rise in British Premier League managers, there remains a healthy contingent of continental coaches holding some of the top jobs in the English game.

Closing the season at Camp Randall Stadium is a Kimberly tradition. But for the first time in three consecutive years of postseason runs to Madison, the Papermakers experienced the painful sting that comes with being second best. Kimberly's two-year reign as Division 2 state football champions ended Friday afternoon when the Papermakers were outplayed by a fast, physical and formidable Waunakee team in a 34-21 final.

They were physical. They made plays, and we just couldn't get it done against a good football team   -Steve Jorgensen
