Something happens when you hear the blast of a train whistle and the familiar sound of a chugging model train. Artist Steve Cryan spent decades creating his train world in miniature. The model train exhibit is now on display at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex.  

The Bridgeport men's basketball team squandered a nine-point halftime lead in a 81-77 loss to Post in the Purple Knight Classic. The Purple Knights (0-2) led 43-34 at halftime, but Post (1-2) converted 15 of 25 field goals in the second half (60 percent) for the come-from-behind win. ShoWare Center officials say the new arena in Kent could post a loss of as much as $343,000 this year. The Cardinals can't overlook the Rams who are playing much better than they were early in the year. They almost beat the Saints last week and they won the game before it against the Lions. The offense is starting to really click for the Cardinals now and they will be attacking the Rams through the air the minute they get off the team bus.  

There have been at least 20 reported assaults in 2009 inside the Oconee County Detention Center, with two of them resulting in the hospitalization of the beaten inmates. Just two years ago, there were only 13 such reported cases, a statistic jail director Steve Pruitt said is indicative of the correlation between the spiking population at the detention center and the rising violence. Nonpartisan elections are a thing of the past for the Sullivan County Commission. And that made Friday the first day would-be county commissioner candidates could pick up paperwork to try and get on the ballot in August. Anytime either party places a particular race on their primary ballot, it changes the filing deadlines for all would-be candidates — for the party in question, for other parties, and for independents.

Dark Days , the direct-to-DVD sequel to the 2007 30 Days of Night movie, is currently shooting in Canada . Dark Days is an adaptation of the sequel to Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith's original 30 Days of Night mini-series published by IDW. Steve Niles told the Bloody Disgusting Website that more sequels are possible (there are at least eight 30 Days of Night graphic novels published so far), if Dark Days does well.  

IT'S OVER two decades since Colin Byrne entered the bear pit, that world occupied by caddies. He was young, a little naive if the truth be known, and the reason for seeking a bag in the first place was an entirely selfish one: he wanted to travel. It had nothing to do with making money, or forging a career.
